Invitation from Our Ottawa for August 24th, 2010

To those concerned about progress in the City of Ottawa,

Over a year of preparation and planning, and bringing civic-minded people together, is culminating on October 25th, 2010. We are nearly two months away from the municipal election and have organized a meeting to discuss the candidates.

Those candidates who value affordable housing, accessible transit, social investment, environmental protection & sustainable city planning need to be identified and supported.

This meeting will openly discuss the strategic wards that we need to focus on and offer insights into achieving a Council which respects the policies and principles listed above.

If you want to see positive change in Ottawa, please forward this email and attached poster along to your networks; RSVP and attend:

Lansdowne Re-zoning Deferred Until September

On August 24, 2010 Planning and Environment Committee(PEC) will receive the staff report and table it for consideration on September 14, 2010. The Committee will receive a brief presentation on the report but it will not hear delegations, consider motions, or deliberate on the recommendations of the report. General questions on the presentation will be considered.

At the September 14, 2010 meeting of the Committee, the PEC will receive correspondence, hear delegations, consider motions and deliberate on the report recommendations.

Written submissions will be circulated to members of Committee and Council for their consideration.

Rezoning for Lansdowne Park

On August 24th, the city's Planning and Environment Committee (PEC) will consider the rezoning required to proceed with the planned development. Anyone can submit written or verbal objections to rezoning based on the planning act and if not satisified with the outcome at the city level, the decision can be appealed to the Ontario Municipal Board.

Read the rationale and background for the rezoning in this staff report to PEC.

Rally for Lansdowne on Monday, June 28--noon at City Hall

Rally for Lansdowne

Monday, June 28th at City Hall

At the Lisgar entrance to City Hall, starting at 11:45 am.

Councillors are scheduled to make a final decision on Monday probably at the end of long day of debate.

We have a serious purpose - to convince our Councillors not to proceed with the Lansdowne Plan. With comfort food, soft drinks (at a reasonable price to help defray our costs) and music, we also want to offer a pleasant lunch-hour event. The BBQ will be fired up and serving and the music will play, starting at 11:45. Speeches at about 12:15.

Please come yourself and convince as many others as possible to join us -- family, neighbours and friends. Spread the word.

Dialogue for Diversity

The Lansdowne Partnership Plan
Is this the right way to go about rejuvenating Lansdowne Park?

The topic is the OSEG proposal to develop Lansdowne Park.  Interestingly the Ottawa City Council vote on proceeding with the Lansdowne Partnership Plan is scheduled for June 28, the day before this D4D event.  No doubt there will be strong opinions, both for and against, whichever way the vote goes at City Hall and it will likely become an election issue, whatever the outcome of the vote.  Clinton Cowan, candidate for councillor in Ward 18 (Alta Vista/Canterbury/Riverview Park) is scheduled to attend this meeting.  Come, join us and have your say.

At D4D meetings we all sit in a circle.  Everyone is encouraged to speak and listen in an open non-partisan environment.

Tuesday 29 June 2010: 7 to 9 pm
St Timothy's Presbyterian Church
2400 Alta Vista Drive at Randall
Call Colin at 613-739-2784

Listen to Dr.  Qais Ghanem's June 23 radio program Dialogue with Diversity on CHIN Radio 97.9 FM, examining  the pros and cons of the Lansdowne Partnership Plan.  Debaters were: Matt Muirhead for the plan and  Bob Brocklebank against it.
