Lansdowne Park - Certificate of Property Use

The Province of Ontario's Ministry of the Environment has finally provided the public with detailed information on the management of toxic soils at Lansdowne Park. There is a 45-day public comment period on the Certificate of Property Use (CPU) which outlines the risk assessment and risk management measures for contaminated soils in one part of Lansdowne Park (Parcel C). Specifically, this CPU concerns the toxic material being buried in a berm close to the Rideau Canal and left in situ in an old underground inlet. You can find the CPU online at www.ebr.gov.on.ca under EBR registry number 011-6997. Watch the Glebe Community Association website www.glebeca.ca for details of a related upcoming public meeting.

Tree Cutting along Holmwood Avenue Stopped Once More?

Canadian Wildlife Service officials have found that migratory birds are nesting in this area and that clearing trees at this time would violate the Migratory Bird Convention Act. Officials plan to attend the site early Monday morning (June 11th) to ensure compliance. Thanks to concerned citizen, Diane McIntyre, who brought this issue to the attention of federal officials.
