Leasing or Selling the Air Rights

On Tuesday, September 7, the Corporate Services and Economic Development Committee passed a motion approving a two-stage process for leasing or selling the air rights for close to 300,000 sq. ft of residential and office buildings at Lansdowne Park.  (This is in addition to the retail being developed by OSEG). This motion will not even go to City Council for further discussion because staff have delegated authority to proceed. It's not at all obvious how leasing or selling air rights is in accordance with Council's June 2010 motion to keep Lansdowne Park in public ownership.

Lansdowne Air Rights up for discussion

The city's Corporate Services and Economic Development Committee (CSEDC) will tackle the process of how to sell or lease the air rights for the Lansdowne Park Plan implementation. The potential revenue is pegged at 10.2 million dollars. The full report to  CSEDC can be read here. A few notes from the document:

  • the site plan design and specifications for the parking and retail components will continue to be reviewed and amended until an anticipated Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) appeal decision is rendered in January 2011
  • the parking garage is to commence in May 2011
  • the stadium is to be ready for the 2013 Canadian Football League season and therefore completed by June 2013

The committee meets to debate the report on Tuesday Sept 7th.
