Dear Friends,
As many of you know, we reached our $100,000 milestone in early February. Thank you so much for your generosity. This is a wonderful achievement for a citizens' group.
As you may also know from recent news coverage, Friends of Lansdowne has won another round in court. Both the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group have been ordered to produce financial documents and agreements that they had been trying to keep secret.
So now we have to ask you for help with the next stage. Our legal team, led by Steven Shrybman, is doing a wonderful job, but the case is proving to be more work than expected. The other side is throwing everything at us but the kitchen sink, and Steven now has two other lawyers from his firm working along with him. They are not pushing us about their fees, but we can't expect them to work endless hours for nothing.
Once we receive the new load of documentation about the Lansdowne deal, our lawyers will have to review and analyze a significant amount of new information. We will again have to retain an accounting firm and tax expert to prepare expert testimony on the financial aspects of the arrangement.
We have a good chance of stopping this flawed plan for Lansdowne. Please help us succeed by sending another donation today. You can make a donation
- at www.letsgetitright.ca
- at any TD bank to account 3248-5207023 (please let our Treasurer know by email at FoL.Donations@gmail.com)
- by sending a cheque to Friends of Lansdowne, c/o Ted Lupinski CA, 137 Second Ave, Suite 2, Ottawa ON K1S 2H4
Thanks again!

P.S. I should tell you that there are other initiatives, any one of which could bring this deal to a halt. One is the OMB (Ontario Municipal Board) hearings coming up soon where 13 groups will be objecting to the zoning for Lansdowne. The zoning approved by the city doesn't conform to the City's official plan and is certainly not appropriate for a residential neighbourhood. The Glebe Community Association is taking the lead on this.
Heritage Ottawa is taking the lead on the heritage aspect and is objecting to several things about the way the city is proposing to deal with heritage properties at Lansdowne Park. A ruling against the city on heritage could also bring the deal to a halt.
Another part of the multi-dimensional attack on the Lansdowne plan is the environmental aspect. The Glebe Community Association is objecting to the city's plan to dispose of contaminated sub-soil material in a berm close to the stadium, thus turning part of Lansdowne into a waste deposit site.
