Dear Friends of Lansdowne,
Next Sunday, November 28th join us from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Mayfair Theatre (1074 Bank Street) for a free public presentation called "Lowdown on the Lansdowne Legal Challenge".
This is your chance to hear Steven Shrybman of Sack Goldblatt Mitchell LLP explain what the case is all about and why we believe it is worth the effort. You can also hear Chris White singing his City Hall hit "The Lansdowne Blues" (listen here--song starts half-way through) as well as protest songs by Teman-Teman (Jeff Frogget and Stephen Richer). Please spread the word.
City Council did not appear to be listening to citizens at the special meeting on Lansdowne Park this past Friday. We passed out bandaged rubber duckies (to remind Council of its lame duck status), sat patiently while Council lost quorum, presented compelling new evidence about the site contamination problem (read the peer review of the ESA here) and waited for hours to speak out to Councillors who didn't seem to care. We'll see what happens at Council tomorrow, but it's all but certain the site plan and relocation of the Horticulture Building will be approved.
At this point the Lansdowne Legal Challenge--along with the OMB appeals and Ontario Heritage Trust action---remain the best hope for stopping this developer-driven scheme. If you want Lansdowne revitalized as a public space using a public process, then join us next Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Mayfair for the Lowdown on the Lansdowne Legal Challenge.
If you can't join us in person, you can give us your financial support online (at letsgetitright.ca) or send a cheque to Friends of Lansdonwe at 137 Second Ave, Suite 2, Ottawa, K1S 2H4.
Spread the word.
